After being granted asylum in Germany, a renowned Arab author is not allowed to return home. Tired and embittered by his life in exile, Munir sets off in search of a place to kill himself. When he arrives on a remote island in the North Sea, Valeska, the kind older woman who takes him in, quickly realizes that he intends to commit suicide.
